The Lambretta TV175 Series 3

How can you describe something as eye-catching as this fully restored Lambretta? Answer is, you can’t! You just have to look at the pictures and take its beautifully aligned yellow and old english white whist basking in its immaculate glory…..

Ok, maybe we’ve gone too far, but this fully restored Lambretta really is extremely easy on the eye. It’s had a full nut and bolt restoration and is in showroom condition.

Some will argue this was one of the best lambrettas that innocenti produced.

Each part of this scooter is period correct, it retains its original panels, original engine and many of its “from birth” parts.

Scooter history / background

In 1962 Innocenti’s new flagship goes on sale: the TV 175 Series III. The design is very similar to the LI models, but headset, horncasting and mudguard are clearly different. The new headset has a hexagon-shaped headlight-rim and a trapeziodal speedometer. The light switch is incorporated in the ignition lock, so that only high-/dipped beam and the horn are controlled via the switches at the right handlebar- end. The front mudguard is made from fibreglass and much more pointed than the round LI item. The horncasting has a wider and lower grille, so that the whole front end looks more dynamic. The main innovation however is the front brake: the TV 175 is the first mass-production two-wheeler with a disc-brake fitted as standard. This is produced by Campagnolo integrated in the hub with a floating disc and is actuated via cable.

The 175 cc engine had a porting layout to produce high torque figures. Fed by a 20mm carb, the engine produced 8,7 hp and had no problems pulling the tall gearing which was later also used for the SX200. The engine layout was the same as that of the TV Series II with 58mm stroke and a long, 116mm con-rod instead of the 107mm item used for the LI. Wider silent blocks were used to smooth the vibrations from the engine.

Also the TV was subject to a few cosmetic changes during the production run. Instead of the standard LI side-panels, it soon received the panels of the Special models and the chrome ring under the headset disappeared. The early colour schemes were based on a white scooter with yellow, red or blue as colour options for side-panels, horncasting and mudguard. Other two-tone colour schemes were grey/dark grey and ivory/brown. Later on, the TV was only offered in blue metallic. These scooters also wore specific rear frame badges.

In October 1965 production of the TV III ceased after 37.794 items built.
